The Philadelphia 76ers have some decisions to make. As they find themselves towards the bottom of the Eastern Conference, they could make some moves before the trade deadline in hopes of climbing the conference.
When it comes to potential trades, Philadelphia has something that can give them a bit of flexibility. They have KJ Martin’s contract.
In the past, Martin was referred to as a “human trade exception” because of the two-year, $16 million deal the Sixers signed him to. His 2026 salary is also non-guaranteed.
He is one of a few players looked at as players with absorbable contracts. If the Sixers are a part of any trades, there is a strong chance Martin is included. It is a matter of who they are in trade talks with and what they would get in return.
Liberty Ballers mentioned various players the Sixers could go after with Martin’s contract. One of the names predicted is Minnesota Timberwolves big man Naz Reid.
Reid is averaging 12.8 points and 5.1 rebounds. The 2024 Sixth Man of the Year is a key player off Minnesota’s bench due to his ability to knock down shots as well as his energy. The Sixers had interest in Reid in the past when they were looking for a backup center. They now have Andre Drummond but having a younger option like Minnesota’s 25-year-old center would not hurt.
Reid is making around $14 million this season. He has a player option in 2026. The Sixers can use Martin, Drummond and Eric Gordon to acquire Reid. Or, they can use Kelly Oubre Jr. alongside Martin. They have options and if the Timberwolves are willing to listen to an offer for Reid, they could obtain him without any issues.
If the Sixers decide to move Martin, they will have to wait until Jan. 15. Will they try to acquire Reid?
