Center Joel Embiid is the cornerstone of the Philadelphia 76ers franchise, meaning there is no intention of the two sides parting ways.
Although Embiid is under contract at least until the 2026 seasonA record extension is on the way. ESPN analyst Bobby Marks predicts the Sixers superstar will sign a max contract extension in the near future.
“He is eligible for three [years] $190 [million]or he could opt for and sign for two [years] $132 [million]” Shared Notes“By doing that, he would actually make an extra $2 million. I would be surprised if, by the start of training camp or even by the start of the season, I would expect a deal to be done with Embiid in the near future here, and I think it would certainly be at the maximum price.”
Each of those possible extensions would exceed the annual value of Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, who signed earlier this summer for five years, or $314 million. Embiid’s contract would average $63.3 million/$66 million, compared to Tatum’s $62.8 million.
The Sixers signed Tyrese Maxey and Paul George this offseason. Maxey signed a four-year, $204 million extension while George agreed to a four-year, $212 million deal. Securing their already established Big Three further lengthens the championship window, even though George is past his prime at 34.
76ers training camp begins Oct. 1meaning that this extension could be finalized as early as the next two weeks.
