Two crosstown foes heading in opposite directions take center stage as the Knicks venture to Brooklyn to take on the Nets on Tuesday.
The Knicks have won nine of their last eleven games since acquiring forward OG Anunoby from Toronto. Anunoby has solidified New York’s defense while emerging as the perfect complement to point guard Jalen Brunson and forward Julius Randle.
Brunson is also thriving. He is averaging 33 points in three games since he returned from a calf injury, which sidelined him for two games. In Saturday’s convincing win over the Raptors, Brunson steered the ship, scoring a game-high 38 points and adding nine assists.
Meanwhile, the Nets have lost 15 of their last 19 games since a respectable 13-10 start. Their last loss came Sunday against the Clippers, when Los Angeles outscored Brooklyn 41-15 in the fourth quarter and closed the game on a 22-0 run.
Forward Mikal Bridges and point guard Cam Thomas have been two reliable bright spots amid the crisis. Bridges is averaging a career-high 21.3 points per game, while Thomas, 22, is averaging a career-high 20.6 points per game in his third year in the league.
It is the second of four meetings between the two teams this season. They previously met on December 20 in Brooklyn, a game the Knicks won, 121-102.
