If you want to check what generation your iPad is, you’ve come to the right place. Knowing the exact iPad generation helps you understand how old your iPad is, what accessories are supported, what features would work on your device, and more. Apple released its first iPad model in 2010 and has since released more than 25 different models across iPad generations. If you bought an iPad a long time ago, you may have forgotten which iPad model you have. In this article, we will tell you how to find your iPad model number and use it to check the iPad generation. So, let’s find out which iPad you have.

How to find your iPad model number

To know exactly which iPad you have, you need to know your tablet’s model number. Each generation of iPad has a unique model number that indicates which iPad it is, when it was manufactured, and other details. There are three ways to find the iPad model. We have discussed them all below.

Method 1: Use the Settings app

If your iPad works fine, with the screen on, you can head to the Settings app to find out which iPad you are using. It is a super easy way to identify the model. This is how you do it:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPad and navigate to the General section.
  • Tap on Aboutthe first option on the list.
  • Here you will see the Model name and Model number eyelashes.
  • The model name will tell you the name and screen size of your iPad. Please note that multiple iPad units may have this model name. Therefore, it is not exclusive to your iPad.
  • On the other hand, The model number starting with A is unique to your iPad. Therefore, it can help you check which generation your iPad is. If the number has a “/” (slash), tap it to reveal the full model number. Once you know your iPad model number, head to the next section to find out the generation of your iPad.

Method 2: Check the back of your iPad

If your iPad won’t turn on and you are having charging issues on your iPad, you can still find out which iPad you own. Simply turn your iPad over to see its back. Below the Apple logo, you will see the word “Model” followed by a shortcode starting with A. That is the model number of your iPad.
