While many topics were discussed on last night’s episode of Real Time with Bill MaherThe HBO host began by mocking right-wingers who think the romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce has something to do with politics.
During his opening monologuewhich you can see above, Maher said the right is “crazy” for making up the conspiracy theory that the two celebrities are only dating so they can endorse Joe Biden for president during the 2024 Super Bowl.
As usual, the comedian and political expert made his way into the topic with a bad taste joke. “It’s the first year we’ve done it in Las Vegas,” he said of the upcoming Super Bowl. “It will be a little different. The hookers are offering a Travis Kelce special: for an extra $50 you can get a spot on their tight end.”
He then talked about the conspiracy theory that has been gaining ground in recent weeks. “The right is simply psyched. “They have a conspiracy theory now that everything is rigged, that the romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce was designed by the Pentagon as a psychological operation (psyop is exactly what it is).”
He added, “and the NFL is involved, the whole season is rigged, so they can be in the Super Bowl, then in the Super Bowl, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, at halftime, will endorse Biden.”
He then joked: “Well, all I have to say about this is ‘abort!’ They are upon us!
“Really? That’s what it is? Was this whole romance designed to ruin an election?” he said. “Or maybe it’s just the popular girl dating the football player.”
Maher then poked fun at the relationship a bit. “I think Taylor Swift is great, all respect for what she has achieved, but this is so high school, right?” she said to the spectators of her. “’My boyfriend is a soccer player! I wear his jacket with his number to the game! He’s going to be prom king!’”
Later in the show, Maher interviewed Michael Render (aka Killer Mike) of the rap duo Run the Jewels and had a panel discussion with Gov. Chris Sununu, the Republican governor of New Hampshire, and Jessica Tarlov, co-host of The five on Fox News. The full episode is currently streaming on Max.
