Two-weight world champion Teofimo Lopez has come out of retirement (surprise, surprise) and will defend his WBO and Ring Magazine super lightweight titles against tough contender Jamaine Ortiz at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas on February 8 .

Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs) is coming off an impressive 12-round unanimous decision victory over Josh Taylor last June. The super-talented Brooklyn resident performed at the same level he showed when he defeated former pound-for-pound No. 1 Vasiliy Lomachenko in October 2020.
“It’s great to be back,” Lopez said. “I’m here to do it for everyone and for the next generation. I’m excited. Everyone is here to see greatness.
“Talk is cheap. You can say what you want, but it’s a lot different when they feel these hits. I love guys like him who think they can take this. But I’m ‘The Takeover.'”
Ortiz (17-1-1, 8 KOs) put the pressure on Lomachenko hard before losing a 12-round decision to the Ukrainian southpaw in October 2022. Despite suffering the first loss of his professional career, the Massachusetts native showed that belonged at the highest level with an inspired display.
“I’m ready to put on a show and have some fun,” Ortiz said. “That’s all I’m here to do, have a little fun. I’m excited to be crowned world champion. My time is coming. This Thursday I will be crowned new champion in 140”.
Will Lopez keep the momentum going by putting a young, ambitious challenger in his place? Or can Ortiz deliver the same kind of upset that Australian George Kambosos Jr. delivered when he handed Lopez the only loss of his career?
