We’re less than a week away from the 2024 Oscars, and time is running out for finalists looking to see all the Best Picture nominees before Hollywood’s biggest night.
Among the nominees are the two halves of the Barbenheimer phenomenon: the billionaire Barbie and oppenheimerwhich has the highest number of nominations of the year with 13.
Also represented are two films by new directors: Cord Jefferson, American fiction and Celine Song Past Lives; three films primarily not in English (Past Lives, The area of interestand Anatomy of a fall); and two biopics (the already mentioned oppenheimer and Bradley Cooper Teacher).

American fiction
Photo: Orion Pictures What is it about? Based on Percival Everett’s 2001 novel. Erasure, American fiction follows a frustrated author and professor who writes an outrageously stereotypical “black” book only to have the book published to rave reviews and high sales. It’s part satire and part family drama that makes for an impressive directorial debut for Cord Jefferson.

Anatomy of a fall

Barbie

After Barbie suffers an existential crisis caused by the person who owns her doll in the real world, she and Ken embark on parallel journeys of self-discovery, both in Barbieland and outside the real world. Greta Gerwig directed the comedy, which she also co-wrote with her husband Noah Baumbach.
