Sean O’Malley won UFC gold last year and is ready to be the promotion’s golden boy. First, he must defend the UFC bantamweight title against his rival Marlon Vera at UFC 299.
O’Malley turned professional in 2015 and earned a contract with the UFC after an appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2017. He is 9-1 with one no-contest in the UFC, the only loss coming against Vera. In October 2022, O’Malley faced his toughest opponent to date in Yan. He defeated the Russian fighter via a controversial split decision victory. In his last fight in August, O’Malley defeated Aljamain Sterling by technical knockout to win the bantamweight belt.
Vera joined the UFC in 2014 and is 15-7 with the promotion and holds the record for most finishes (10) in UFC bantamweight history. Losing to José Aldo in 2020, “Chito” was on a four-fight winning streak before losing to Cory Sandhagen in March 2023. His last fight was a decision win over Pedro Munhoz in August.
The last time they fought, Vera won by technical knockout in the first round. O’Malley has gone on and on about saying that he is undefeated, and the two have criticized each other on social media since the first fight. They have had their successes and failures and are ready to compete again for maximum bragging rights.

“Honestly, I’m surprised this is happening in some sense,” O’Malley said. Helen Yee through MMA fighting. “I didn’t think he would get the title shot, and did he really deserve it after his performance against Pedro? I don’t know, but I thought, you know what? It’s time for me to delete it. So here we are and it’s very exciting.”
