Lori Loughlin made a pretty shocking cameo on Sunday’s show. Curb your enthusiasm episode in which the ex Full house The actress did a parody of herself, mocking the college admissions scandal that landed her in prison.
In the episode, Ted Danson asks Larry David to help Loughlin become a member of his country club after she is excluded for paying $500,000 to get her daughter into the University of Southern California. David agrees and successfully helps her enter thanks to a moving speech inspired by the Gettysburg Address.
“You know I’m a defender of the underdog,” he says. But David soon begins to see how far Loughlin is willing to go to get what she wants.
In one part of the episode, Loughlin reveals that she told the club that she has Epstein-Barr, earning herself handicap accommodations that she doesn’t actually need. He later lied about his score during a game of golf, although he sheepishly admitted to David: “I had a good lie.”
Although she served time in prison for her role in the scandal, the episode parodies the real-life difficulties she may be facing reintegrating into Hollywood, something Felicity Huffman, another figure in the college admissions scandal, has been open about.
According Curb Executive producer Jeff Schaffer, Loughlin was more than willing to appear on the show, even if it included unkindly referencing her time in prison.
“This was an idea we loved from a writer named Teddy Bressman. But it’s not going to be fun with some sort of thinly veiled substitute. It only works if we catch Lori,” Schaffer said. The Hollywood Reporter. “So we called her manager, who she loved, and then he talked to Lori and she was like, ‘I’m in, I’m all in.’ And she went. “She was so cool.”
He added: “Everything we threw at her, she was willing to do it. She makes the episode. “I’m so glad she wanted to do it.”
Schaffer explained that the writers didn’t start “working on the details” until Loughlin was definitively on board with the direction of the episode.
“I guess as comedy writers we naively think, ‘This is so funny, who wouldn’t want to do this?’ Well, maybe the person it is! he said. “But she saw how fun it was and she liked it right away.”
Loughlin served two months in prison for her role in the scandal, which the FBI dubbed Operation Varsity Blues.
