Discord stores its messages on servers, which means you can delete messages from private conversations. This is in contrast to messaging apps that store message data on smartphones. However, some people don’t know how to delete direct messages or do it in one go.
Besides deleting them manually, there are other ways to delete messages on Discord. It’s much easier to delete direct messages with a PC, but you may not always have one nearby. Keep reading to know more.
Delete Discord direct messages from a mobile device
The only way to delete messages in private conversations on a mobile device is to manually delete them one by one. Discord does not have a DM bulk delete feature on any platform by default, so the only supported way is the slow process. Is that how it works.
- Launch Discord on your mobile device.
- Tap the message icon.
- Select a conversation.
- Find a message you want to delete.
- Press and hold the message with your finger.
- When the list of options appears, select “Delete message.”
The message is now deleted; Because you can’t use Windows hotkeys on a mobile device, there’s no way to quickly delete texts. Some users may discover muscle memory and timing after several attempts to speed up the process. But most may find that it’s probably not much faster than inpidual eliminations.

Delete Discord direct messages from PC
Discord is available for PC as a standalone app or through your favorite browsers. They are identical in almost every way, so it doesn’t matter which one you prefer. The steps below will help you delete direct messages.
- Open Discord on your PC.
- Click the messages icon.
- Choose one of your conversations.
- Hover over a message and click the triple dots that appear.
- Choose “Delete message.”
- Proceed with deleting the message.
- Repeat if necessary.
While this method is useful for inpidual messages, being on a PC allows you to use Discord hotkeys. These make the process much faster.
- Open Discord.
- Go to the conversation list via the messages icon.
- Open a DM.
- Press the up arrow key twice.
- Select all message text with the “Ctrl+A” shortcut.
- Delete the texts using Backspace or Delete.
- Press the Enter key.
- If Discord asks you again, press Enter to confirm.
Repeat as necessary to delete direct messages. Using hotkeys is much faster than pointing and clicking on each message, making deleting messages more efficient.
However, while this is a useful way to delete messages, there is another way to improve it.
Remove Discord DM Script
Scripts are a set of instructions that you can give the computer to execute. When a script is run, the computer will follow the instructions to the letter. You can use scripts to delete direct messages in Discord while on a PC.
However, the use of scripts is considered to violate Discord’s Terms of Service. Therefore, we recommend that you exercise caution when deleting messages with them.
- Download and install AutoHotKey.
- Start AutoHotKey and keep it active.
- Download the Discord.ahk file from this page.
- Run the file you just downloaded.
- Click “Well” when a popup appears saying “This script is active!” appears.
- Go to the client or browser version of Discord.
- Go to the DMs you want to delete.
- Select a message and press “Delete.”
Scrolling is necessary if you use AutoHotKey because Discord only loads messages when you reach them on the screen. So you can’t just leave the script running and expect a clean erase. Scroll up if you want to continue deleting direct messages.
This script is actually the hotkey method, but on steroids. Instead of pressing the keys yourself, you’re basically using a script that works like a macro. The macros will keep repeating until you pause the script, and that’s when you finally delete everything.
There is another way to use scripts. Is called discord and it is a little more difficult to install.
- Get the violent monkey either manipulative monkey extensions for your browser.
- Download and install discord.
- Open the browser version of Discord.
- Click the trash icon in the upper right corner.
- Select “Get”
- Click on “Begin” to start deleting.
Unfortunately, Undiscord no longer works with Mac. Additionally, it only works in the browser version, so the standalone client is out of the question.
Delete Discord DM history with bots
Unfortunately, Discord does not allow users to delete their direct messages with bots. Doing so is also against the Terms of Service. However, some bots have commands that allow you to delete messages sent to your channel or server if you are the moderator.
Every bot is different, so you need to find the right command. The help function might reveal it. Otherwise, the bot download page should contain a list of all the commands.
Bots can’t delete text messages you sent them because only you can do that. This security feature prevents someone from altering your messages with a simple bot.

Can you delete other users’ DMs?
No, you cannot delete messages that other users sent you in a DM or elsewhere. The only way to make them disappear is if the sender permanently deletes them from the chat.
Have deleted direct messages really disappeared?
Yes and no. When a private message is deleted, the sender and recipient will not be able to see it. However, Discord’s servers will retain a copy, which could be discovered if a court orders the company to hand them over.
