After failing to medal at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the United States Men’s National Basketball Team is looking to field an All-Star team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Team USA has captured gold in four consecutive Olympic Games and is looking to continue its recent streak of Olympic dominance, although the rest of the world will present quite a challenge. With a fifth consecutive gold medal on the line, the United States national team could feature some of the biggest names in the game.
Basketball at the 2024 Summer Olympics doesn’t start until July 27, but Team USA has already narrowed the field to a list of 41 finalists to make the 12-man roster. Of those 41, there are a few players who are reportedly considered safe to travel to Paris, barring injury.

Mavericks star Kyrie Irving has a “deep desire” to represent the United States at the Paris Olympics, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Irving helped Team USA win a gold medal at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. He later was part of the team that won a gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
In 33 career games with the US national team.Irving is averaging 11.8 points on shooting splits of .530/.438/.896.

USA Basketball has chosen seven players to form the core of its Olympic team, barring injury, according to a report obtained from The Athletic.

The group is led by two-time gold medalist LeBron James and three-time gold medalist Kevin Durant. It would be the fourth Olympic appearance for both James (2004, 2008, 2012) and Durant (2012, 2016, 2020).
Devin Booker, Jrue Holiday and Jayson Tatum were key members of the team that led Team USA to Olympic gold in Japan, while this would be the Olympic debut for Stephen Curry and Joel Embiid, the latter of whom recently decided to compete by the United States. after becoming a US citizen in September 2022.
If this group of seven holds, US Men’s National Team general manager Grant Hill will select five more players from a pool of the remaining 34 finalists.

Men’s 5×5 basketball at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games begins with the group stage on Saturday, July 27. Group play concludes on Sunday, August 4 and the quarterfinals begin on Tuesday, August 6.
The semi-finals will take place on Thursday, August 8. The bronze medal and gold medal games will take place on Saturday, August 10.
The group matches will be held at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, France, while the final phase of games will be played at the Accor Arena in Paris.

The men’s basketball draw for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be announced on March 19.
Team USA is one of 12 teams that will participate in the Olympic basketball tournament. Eight teams have already qualified and four more spots will be determined during the Olympic Qualifiers in July.
