How to join with meeting ID in Microsoft Teams

To offer versatility to its users and improve security, Microsoft Teams continues to expand the ways to join a meeting. One of the latest methods introduced is to join a meeting with an ID. Each meeting created in Microsoft Teams receives a unique identifier (UID), a numerical ID, and an alphanumeric passcode that acts as a password. This makes it easy to join the meeting without a link.

If you’ve never joined a meeting using an ID, you’re in the right place. In this article, we’ll discuss how to join a Teams meeting with an ID on desktop, gateway, and mobile.

How to join a Microsoft Teams meeting with a meeting ID

You may need to use a meeting ID when joining a Teams meeting as a guest or when you don’t have access to the meeting link. From the organizer’s point of view, a meeting ID improves meeting security by ensuring that only authorized people attend. This reduces meeting disruptions, protects confidential information, and maintains meeting integrity.

Typically, when you receive a meeting invitation via email, you’ll find a p with a meeting ID and, below it, an access code. These two work together and are exclusive to a single meeting. Once that meeting ends, you will not be able to use that ID again.

There are three ways to join a Teams meeting using a meeting ID, as explained below.

Join a Microsoft Teams meeting with meeting ID from the desktop app

The prerequisite to use this method is to have a Microsoft Teams app on your PC or a Microsoft Teams account. If you don’t have a Microsoft Teams account or the app on your PC, you can create one and download the app, as explained in the next p.

To create a Microsoft Teams account, do the following:

1. Gonna microsoftteams.com in your browser and click the “Account Icon” at the top right of the screen.
   
2. On the login page, click the “Create one” link.
   
3. Enter your email and follow the on-screen instructions to set your password and provide your details.
   
4. Finally, verify your email and your account will be ready.
   

With your Microsoft Teams account ready, you can follow these steps to download the desktop app.

1. Browse microsoftteams.com and click the “Download Teams” hyperlink in the top right corner.
   
2. On the page that opens, tap “Download for desktop.”
   
3. Once the download is complete, click on it and follow the instructions to install it. You will now be able to open the Teams app on your desktop.

To join a Teams meeting in the app, using C, follow these steps:

1. Use the Windows search bar at the bottom of the screen to explore Notepad app or any other app you use to take notes and tap it to open it.
   
2. Go to your meeting invitation and copy the “Meeting ID and Passcode.” Paste both in notepad.
   
3. Open your Microsoft Teams desktop app or go to microsoftteams.com and sign in to your account.
   
4. Tap “Calendar” in the left sidebar menu.
   
5. At the top right of the calendar window, click “Join with ID.”
   
6. Go to your notebook, copy the meeting ID, and paste it into the Meeting ID field. Do the same with the password.
   
7. Click “Join Now” to access the meeting.
   

Join Microsoft Teams meeting with ID from Access Portal

If you don’t want to install the Microsoft Teams app for any reason, such as low storage space, joining your meeting from the access portal is the most convenient way. What you need is a browser to access the Microsoft Teams website where you can join the meeting as follows:

1. Open Notepad or any other app you use to take notes.
   
2. Go to your meeting invite link, copy the meeting invite link and access code and paste them into your notes.
   
3. Open the Microsoft Access Portal in your web browser.
   
4. Go back to your notes and copy the meeting ID. Paste it in the top box of the access portal. Also copy the access code and paste it in the bottom box of the access portal.
   
5. Tap “Join a meeting” at the bottom. A window will open allowing you to join the meeting in your browser or Teams app.
   
6. Select the option that best suits you and click “Join Now” to access the meeting.
   

Join Microsoft Teams meeting with ID from Android and iOS

Being able to join a meeting with an ID from your mobile phone is convenient because you can join the meeting even if you don’t have access to a laptop. While using this method, you may need to write the meeting ID and passcode somewhere because if you exit the app to confirm the meeting details, you may need to restart the process again.

Here’s how you can join a meeting with ID using your mobile phone:

1. If you don’t have a Microsoft Teams app, download it first. Gonna Google Play Store on Android and
   download the application. For an iOS phone, go to App Store and download it.
   
2. After downloading Microsoft Teams, sign in and tap the Calendar icon at the bottom right of the screen.
   
3. Tap the Meeting icon in the top right corner. This opens a window with two options: “Meet now” and “Join with a meeting ID.” Play this last one.
   
4. In the top box, enter the meeting ID and the access code in the bottom one.
   
5. Select “Join Meeting” to access the meeting.

Like a meeting ID, links provide more than one method for joining a meeting. Being able to use the web browser and the Teams mobile and desktop app for both methods increases the chances of not missing a meeting.
