When you sync your Google account with your Android either iOS device, automatically uploads your photos to Google Photos.
This way, you won’t have to waste time on manual uploads, while all your data is backed up. When you open the Google Photos app on your phone, all your images and videos will be there, ready for you to organize.
However, sometimes there is an error and the service does not work. Your photos are not loading. Here are a couple of simple solutions you can try.
Update the application
Your photos may have stopped uploading to Google Photos because they need to be updated. Follow these steps to ensure your app is up to date:
- Visit Google Play Store or App Store
- Check Google Photos to make sure there are no pending updates to download.
Check backup status and enable sync
The reason why your photos are not uploading may be the disabled sync option. Here’s how to check if you’ve enabled sync.
- Open the Google Photos app on your smartphone.
- Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen.
- Choose Photos settings from the list.
- Take a look at the Backup & Sync option. If it is activated, this is how it should be. If it is disabled, tap it to open it and move the switch to the right. It will turn blue and more options will appear now that backup is enabled.
Here you can choose the upload size, other folders besides your camera that you want to backup, whether you want to continue the backup when using mobile data or when roaming.
If you’re checking the sync status without making any changes, open the Google Photos app and tap your profile photo in the top right corner. You’ll see it below your name and email address. It can be one of the following:
Complete: All your images and videos have been uploaded.
Off– You must activate it to upload items to Google Photos.
Support above: Your items are currently uploading.
Preparing Backup/Preparing to Backup: Charging is about to begin.
Wait for connection/waiting for Wi-Fi: Your phone is offline and charging will start as soon as you connect to Wi-Fi or activate mobile data.
Check file size and type
If your photos are larger than 100 megapixels or 75 MB, you won’t be able to upload them. The same goes for videos larger than 10 GB.
Make sure you are connected
If you are checking your backup settings, you may see that the backup is waiting to connect. That means you have disconnected from a network. Follow these steps to ensure you’re connected:
- Go to your settings
- Find your network settings and make sure your phone has Internet access.
- If there are no networks available, turn on your mobile data to finish the backup.
Don’t forget that your photos and videos can be large and you’ll probably end up using large amounts of data.
Make sure there is enough space
When you store images and videos in Google Photos, you have two options. The first option is to upload an almost unlimited number of low-quality photos and video clips. The other is to keep images and videos in their original format, although you may quickly reach the 15GB limit.
In case you chose the second option, you may have run out of space, so you won’t be able to upload anything else until you reorganize, delete some items, or upgrade your storage.
Clear app cache and data
Another solution for photos not loading is to clear the app’s data and cache. To do this, follow these steps:
- Go to your phone’s Settings.
- Tap Apps and find the Google Photos app.
- Tap Storage to see Data and Cache.
- Clear the data first, then the cache.
EITHER:
- Open the Settings app and scroll to Apps.
- Find Google Photos and tap to open.
- Select Disable and wait a few seconds.
- Enable the app again and open it.
- Access.
- Tap your profile icon to open the menu.
- Choose Settings and then Backup & Sync Settings.
- Tap Backup & Sync and enable it.

Restart your device and reinstall the app
If nothing else works, you can try restarting your device because a temporary error may cause your photos to not load properly. You can also try deleting the app and installing it again.
