VLC in dark mode: Linux
If you access VLC through Linux, here’s what you’ll need to do to enable dark mode. It’s worth noting that this method can be applied to any Linux distribution, including Debian, Mint, CentOS, and more. Here’s how to use dark mode in VLC using Linux:
- Download VLC Dark Mode Skin from VLC website.
- Launch the VLC media player application on your PC.
- Once you have opened the application, select the Tools option located at the top of the screen.
- Click preferences. Or press Ctrl + P as a shortcut to access preferences.
- Select Interface, located in the upper left corner.
- Under look and feel settings, you will see the option to Use custom skin. Check this option.
- Press Choose to open the file explorer window.
- Select the dark mode skin file that you downloaded earlier from the VLC site.
- Click Save when you have finished uploading your skin.
- Close VLC and then open it again. The dark mode skin should now be activated.
VLC Dark Mode: Android
Currently, only Android users can enable the dark mode feature through the VLC app. To do this:
- Open the VLC application.

- Tap on the three vertical points to access the menu.

- Navigate to the Settings option.

- Low Additional settingsselect Interface.

- In the list of options, tap Day and night mode.

- In the pop-up window that appears, choose black theme. This will enable dark mode in VLC media player.

VLC Dark Mode: iPhone
As mentioned above, there is currently no option to enable dark mode on an iPhone directly through the VLC app. Instead, you’ll need to use the existing built-in dark mode settings that come with iOS devices. Turning this feature on will gray out not only the VLC app but also everything else on your iPhone.
To activate dark mode on your iPhone, simply follow these steps:
- From your iPhone home page, go to Settings.

- From the list of options you see, select Screen and brightness.

- Tap Appearance.
- Check the Dark option to enable dark mode.

- Then you can click Options choose From dusk to dawn. This gives you the option to set a time limit for which you want dark mode to activate.

- Once this is complete, return to the VLC app, which should now be in dark mode.
Alternatively, you can also rest your eyes using your iPhone by lowering the brightness. To do this, simply swipe up on your iPhone and adjust the brightness by sliding the bar with the brightness icon.
