It is the second television adaptation of Liu Cixin’s novel. The three body problem; the former was a Chinese production that kept the story’s cast of mostly Chinese characters, but conveniently omitted the rather horrific experiences of young Ye Wenjie (Zine Tseng) during the Cultural Revolution. The three body problem by Liu Cixin (or Cixin Liu if we refer to the Western name structur) was first published in China in 2008. In 2014, an English translation by author Ken Liu reached the US and the UK, and soon It became a major phenomenon with nobodies like George RR Martin and Barack Obama singing its praises. There are two sequels, The dark forest (translated into English by Joel Martinez) and The end of death (also translated by Ken Liu). Collectively, the books are known as the Remembrance of Earth’s past trilogy, which is not only clunky, but only makes sense when you finally read the last book.
There are a few reasons why many readers thought Three body problem The books were unadaptable. They’re hard science fiction, which means they focus on the nitty-gritty of scientific theory, which can be a lot for the average liberal arts major to parse, yours truly. The images conveyed by Liu are also very specific and not from this world. But the trickiest part of adapting these books has to be the way the series avoids a simple, linear timeline. The first book is fairly self-contained, vacillating between Ye Wenjie’s story and Da Shi’s contemporary research. The dark forest apparently picks up where The three body problem ends, but then introduces a completely new protagonist and the idea of cryogenic sleep. That means there is a big jump halfway through the novel to a much more advanced and strange future. The last book, The end of death begins immediately after the events of The three body problem and then, um, travel far, far, far into the future. Again new protagonists are introduced.
Netflix 3 Body problem It solves the narrative puzzles of the trilogy’s time jumps and revolving protagonists by weaving all the contemporary plots into the first season. So the events that occur at the beginning of Books 2 and 3 are included in Season 1. Well, bear with me about this because I was an English major and he did really poorly on his AP Physics exam in high school, but from what I understand, the three-body problem is like an incredible thought experiment in physics and classical music. mechanics. If we work with Newtonian physics, the idea is that if there are three separate bodies moving around each other in space, there is no way to predict the trajectories of these bodies. It’s total chaos. For example, you can predict what path two suns will follow orbiting each other or how the moon rotates around the Earth, but if you throw in a third planetary body, math and science go crazy. The Newtonian laws of gravity allow you to juggle two balls in the air, but not three.
That said, scientists have postulated several solutions to the three-body problem, ranging from three bodies moving in a figure-eight pattern to the idea that they will not collide with each other if their motion is elastic versus gravitational.
