He appears only very briefly in the film’s opening scene, when Gyllenhaal’s character, Dalton, shows up at an underground fighting ring to earn some extra money. We watch as Carter (aka Post Malone, instantly recognizable by his many, many tattoos) easily defeats his first opponent in the ring. It’s clear that Carter is a big shot around here. He gloats over his victory and challenges anyone brave enough to challenge him to step forward.
