Add Olympian to Jimmer Fredette’s already impressive basketball resume.
On March 26, USA Basketball announced that Fredette will be one of four members of the Men’s National 3×3 Team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Joining Fredette are Canyon Barry, Kareem Maddox and Dylan Travis.

Fredette, 35, has not played in the NBA since the 2018-19 season. In 2022, he began playing 3×3 basketball with the ultimate goal of representing the United States in the Olympic Games.
As he has done so many times throughout his career, Fredette made his decision when he first got involved with 3×3.
“I hope everyone is ready for the 2024 Olympics in Paris because that’s what I’m working towards,” Fredette said in a 2022 report. interview with the Glen Falls, New York Post-Star “Let everyone put that on their radar.”
Since then, Fredette has starred in Team USA’s 3×3 program, winning gold at the 2022 FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup and the 2023 Pan American Games. And while Team USA 3×3 won the silver at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2023, Fredette earned a team selection for the entire tournament.
3×3 basketball officially became an Olympic sport at the Tokyo Games, where men’s and women’s 3×3 tournaments were held. Team USA took home gold in the women’s category, but did not qualify in the men’s category.
Team USA qualified for the 2024 Olympics thanks to its top-three FIBA 3×3 world ranking. With Team USA qualification, Fredette will be a member of the first-ever United States Senior Men’s National 3×3 Team.
In addition to men’s 3×3, USA Basketball will be represented in the women’s 3×3 tournament, as well as men’s and women’s basketball.
What is 3×3 basketball?
Pronounced “three-ex-three” in English, 3×3 is a variation of half-court basketball. In addition to being 3 on 3 in the half court, there are some important differences in the rules in the world of 3v3:

Tune into 3×3 and you’ll notice a basketball of different sizes and a game consisting of a 10-minute quarter with a 12-second shot clock. Shots scored count for one or two points and there is no interruption between baskets scored.
The games can be played both indoors and outdoors.
