Goals from Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard took Arsenal to the top of the Premier League as the Gunners beat Brighton 3-0.
Manchester City had originally overtaken Arsenal earlier in the day by beating Crystal Palace 4-2, but Mikel Arteta’s side remained unfazed and took a big step towards their first title in 20 years.
Liverpool are the other title contenders in this exciting three-horse race, but they don’t play until Sunday afternoon when they take on Manchester United. If Jurgen Klopp’s men win at the Theater of Dreams, they will return to first position.

Arsenal dominated in the early stages of the match and took the lead in the 33rd minute, when Saka scored from the penalty spot. Gabriel Jesus was brought down by Tariq Lamptey after the Brazilian beat the Brighton right-back with some clever footwork.
Saka, who had injury problems coming into this match, scored his 14th goal of the season, as many goals as he managed in the entire 2022/23 season. Arteta then immediately replaced his star boy following Havertz’s goal in a bid to keep him fresh ahead of the Champions League quarter-final clash against Bayern Munich in just a few days.
Havertz’s ninth goal of the season came after a brilliant run by Jorginho and the Italian spotted the German midfielder in the area. The former Chelsea stars have proven vital to the Gunners’ title race and Havertz scored three goals in four away league games in what is now his most prolific Premier League campaign.
David Raya and his defense maintained their sensational level of defense, while the Spanish goalkeeper achieved his twelfth clean sheet. No goalkeeper in England’s top flight has more than the one on loan and the £27million option to buy in the summer still looks like a bargain.
Roberto De Zerbi is reported to be a wanted man across Europe and has recently been linked with a move to become Munich’s head coach in the summer. As a result, his team’s form has suffered and Brighton’s defeat to the Gunners was their fifth in their last eight games.
While the Seagulls still sit in the top half of the table, their quest for a European qualification place for next season is under threat. They are now five points behind West Ham, who currently sit in seventh place, but have a game in hand.
Next up in the title race for the Gunners is a tough challenge as they host Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
