How to send money on Zelle

Zelle is an extremely convenient way to send and receive money to and from your friends, family, and other trusted contacts. It’s fast, free and very easy to use. In fact, you may already have access to Zelle through your bank’s mobile app. While hundreds of banks support Zelle, you can use it even if yours doesn’t yet offer this service.

How to send money on Zelle

Using Zelle is really simple:

1. Download the Zelle app from Google Play or the App Store.
   
2. Tap “Get Started” and sign up with your phone number.
3. The app will ask you to connect to your bank. Use the search bar to find it.

If your bank or credit union has already implemented Zelle, the app will redirect you to your regular banking app. However, you’ll be able to sign up even if your bank doesn’t use Zelle. If you can’t find your bank in Zelle, follow the instructions in the app:

1. Enter your email address as prompted.
2. You will receive a verification code. Enter it on the next screen.
3. Enter your credit card information.

Once registered, you can start sending money with the Zelle app:

1. Tap “Send” on the home page and then choose a contact.
2. Enter the amount of money you want to transfer and press “Review.”
3. Check the details once again and add a note to the recipient if you wish.
4. The transaction is complete.

How to Send Money on Zelle for Chase

You won’t need to download Zelle if you already have the Chase app. It’s already built into Chase and you can use it right away.

1. open your chase app.
2. Tap “Pay & Transfer” in the bottom menu.
   
3. Press “Send money with Zelle®.”
   
4. Choose a contact. If you don’t have recent contacts, tap “Add,” marked with a plus sign next to the search bar.
   
5. Choose someone from your phone contacts or create a new one by typing a name and adding their email address and phone number.
   
6. Enter the amount of money you want to send on the next screen.
   
7. Leave a note for your recipient if you wish.
   
8. Select an account under “Pay from”.
   
9. Press “Review and Submit” and check everything one more time.
   
10. If the information is correct, tap “Send now.”
    

Chase also allows you to schedule your Zelle payments by tapping “Today” on the payment screen and changing the date. Likewise, the app makes it easy to repeat payments with a switch on the same screen.

Plus, you’ll see which of your contacts are already using Zelle in your contact list. Zelle users will have a small “z” logo next to their icons. You can also transfer money to contacts who do not yet use this service, but they will need to create an account.

How to Send Money on Zelle for Wells Fargo

The process is similar if you use the Wells Fargo app for your banking. You must register your Wells Fargo account with Zelle to get started. Set it up as follows:

1. Log in to your Wells Fargo app.
2. Open the menu by tapping the three horizontal lines in the top right corner.
3. Press “Transfer & Pay” and then “Send Money with Zelle®.”
4. Tap “Get Started” on the tutorial screen and accept the terms and conditions.
5. Choose which deposit account you want to use with Zelle.
6. Register your email address and phone number by turning on the switch next to each. You will receive a code to verify them.
7. When you are done with the setup, tap “Done.”

You can now send money to Zelle:

1. Tap the big “Submit” button.
2. Add a recipient by choosing a contact.
3. Review the information on your screen and if everything is correct, tap “All set” and then “Continue.”
4. Enter the amount you want to send and tap “Review.”
5. Check everything one more time and then hit the “Submit” button.
6. Now, you will need to verify your identity. Press “Get Code” and enter the code you received in a text message.
7. You’re done.

How to send money to yourself

If you have accounts at multiple banks, you can send yourself money from one account to another through Zelle. Considering that Zelle doesn’t charge additional fees, this can be a smart way to transfer your money to the account you need. You’ll need to set up Zelle in both banking apps to send money to yourself.

Setting up Zelle is as easy as tapping the “Send Money with Zelle®” option in your banking app menu and entering your contact information. However, you will find that you cannot set up two different Zelle accounts with the same phone number and email address. If you have this problem, you will need to add another phone number and email address to your bank account.

Once you have both accounts set up, go through the shipping process as you normally would. On the contacts page, add your alternate account as a new contact.

What is the cost of sending money?

One of the biggest advantages of using Zelle is that it typically requires no additional costs. However, you will need to check with your financial institution for possible fees. Additionally, in certain situations, Zelle may charge you a fee. For example, if you do not have sufficient funds for a transaction, you can expect insufficient funds charges.

Can I send money internationally?

Unfortunately, Zelle is currently only available at US banks. Therefore, both your bank and the recipient must be based in the US.

Can I cancel a Zelle payment?

If both the sender and recipient’s banks support Zelle, payments will complete in minutes. Zelle is a way to send payments to trusted contacts, so there’s no way to cancel a payment once you’ve hit the send button. If you have scheduled a payment, you can still cancel it from your Activity page.

If the recipient’s bank is not registered with Zelle, payments are a little slower. Therefore, you may be able to cancel yours shortly after you send it by tapping the red “Stop Payment” button. Please note this will incur a $25 fee.
