There have been recent discussions about declining interest in Jake Paul’s boxing fights, thanks in part to “The Problem Child” not facing high-profile names. The YouTuber heard you loud and clear. Paul announced that he will fight the legendary Mike Tyson on July 20.

Paul vs. Tyson emanates from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and will stream on Netflix. It is Netflix’s first foray into producing combat sports content. It was not clarified if Paul vs. Tyson would be a professional or exhibition fight, or how the Texas Athletic Commission can approve a fight between a 27 and 57 year old player.

“Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson is a once-in-a-lifetime dream matchup, and I anticipate it will be the most-watched boxing event in modern boxing history,” said Nakisa Bidarian, founder of Most Valuable Promotions. “Partnering with Netflix for this deal presents an unparalleled opportunity to bring Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson to the world on an unprecedented scale, and we look forward to delivering this incredible clash between two of the biggest names in sport. “Six generations of boxing fans will have a vested interest in the outcome and will be able to watch an anti-hero, Jake Paul, risk it all against the baddest man on the planet, Mike Tyson.”

Known as “The Baddest Man on the Planet,” Tyson turned professional in 1985. One of the most feared men in and out of the ring, Tyson pulverized his opponents, winning 44 fights by knockout. A former undisputed heavyweight champion, Tyson has had famous wins and setbacks in the ring against the likes of Trevor Berbick, Michael Spinks, Buster Douglas, Evander Holyfield and more.

Tyson retired in 2005 with a loss to Kevin McBride. Tyson, an all-time great, returned to the ring in 2020 to face Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition fight. On that same card, Paul fought former NBA star Nate Robinson.

Along with Robinson, Paul has defeated MMA fighters Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley (twice), Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz. He lost to Tommy Fury in early 2023, his first fight against a legitimate boxer. Paul finished the year with a knockout victory against boxer Andre August. The former Disney star fought in early March, defeating Ryan Bourland by technical knockout. Many criticized his and his opponent’s performance.

“It’s crazy to think that in my second professional fight I went viral for knocking out Nate Robinson on the Mike Tyson undercard. Now, less than four years later, I’m going to face Tyson myself to see if I have what it takes to beat one of boxing’s most notorious fighters and one of its biggest icons,” Paul said.
