Former child star Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who began acting as a teenager in Saved by the Bellspoke out about recent accusations from other former child actors about their experiences working at Nickelodeon in the ’90s and ’00s.
“I feel very, very bad for having gone through that,” he said recently. Page six. “I couldn’t relate because that wasn’t how our set was performed at all.”
The actor confessed that he had not seen Silence on set, the ID series in which former child actors spoke out about the mistreatment they suffered at Nickelodeon. The doctor uncovered several shocking allegations against the network and its employees, including racism, harassment and sexual abuse.
“As a cast, I think we’re all pretty unscathed in a way,” Gosselaar continued. “We had a good family, good producers who protected us, good teachers, so I feel really bad that anyone had to go through that, especially the children.”
He added: “The only thing I can say from my experience is that I was very aware that this was a business and that sometimes people will do anything to get results.”
Silence on set It marked the first time Drake Bell spoke out about being sexually assaulted by Brian Peck, a former speech coach and actor who worked for the network. Peck was subsequently arrested on multiple charges and sentenced to 16 months in prison. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender.
The series also highlighted two other Nickelodeon employees who were registered as sex offenders while working for the network.
Dan Schneider, the brain behind programs like Amanda’s show and Zoey 101, was also accused of inappropriate conduct. Employees who came forward in the document accused him of requesting massages on set. He was fired from Nickelodeon in 2018 after an internal investigation found he was verbally abusive toward employees.
