Two young and talented fighters will clash for super lightweight bragging rights on April 20. Devin Haney defends the WBC super lightweight title against Ryan García inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Haney began boxing at age seven and turned professional in 2015. The 25-year-old made Tijuana, Mexico, his home ring before competing throughout the United States, becoming a recognized name in the sport. He became the undisputed lightweight champion after defeating George Kambosos Jr. in 2022. “The Dream” easily took over Regis Prograis in December to win the light heavyweight title.
Going from lightweight to super lightweight has already done wonders for his career. Haney believes his new home will allow him to show off to Garcia.
“Not having to lose those five extra pounds has been a big help for me,” Haney said. “I’ve been at 135 for a long time. At 140, it feels so different… Whatever version of Ryan shows up on April 20, I’ll be ready for him. Ryan Garcia is just another opponent for me. I’m in contention with greatness. That’s why I train so hard, that’s why I stay so disciplined.”

García competes in his second main event on PPV. “KingRy” lost to Gervonta Davis in April 2023 via technical knockout after taking several hard body shots. The 25-year-old is a former interim lightweight champion with 20 knockout wins. While it is controversial due to the way he has carried himself leading up to the fight, he believes that anything said outside the ring will not affect his abilities in it.
“Other people’s interpretations are up to them. I know I’m training hard. I feel great, I look good in the gym, people just need to look at the facts. I don’t regret anything I said or did in the Before of this fight, I am ready to kick on April 20. I know I can say a lot, but I know I need to prove it,” Garcia said.
