There are several reasons why you may need to change the account on the Echo Show device. Maybe you want to sell it or give it away, or you just have it and want to register your account. Is there a way to add a new account and switch to it?
Unfortunately, the Amazon Echo Show is a custom device, meaning you can only pair it with one account before using it. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t switch to another account if you want.
The only difference is that you will have to completely delete the old account before you can set up a new one. There are two ways to deregister an account: you can do it on the official Amazon website or directly on the device. This article will guide you through both.
Unsubscribe from the Amazon website
You can deregister each Amazon device you own on the official Amazon website. With this option, you will not be able to purchase any new apps or in-app items.
Additionally, you won’t be able to use streaming services or purchase books and audiobooks from the Amazon store. However, you can set up a new account and use these options in the future.
Here’s what you need to do to unsubscribe from the website:
- Sign in to your Amazon account.
- Now, click on the dropdown menu in the top left corner and select Content and devices.
- Then select Devices of Manage your content and devices.
- Then, click on your Echo Show and click Drop out from the menu on the left.
After you deregister the device, you will unlink your account from the Echo Show. The next time you turn on your device and connect to Wi-Fi, you will be prompted to set up a new Amazon account.
Factory reset device
The other option to delete an account and switch to a new one is to perform a factory reset. This will erase all user data from your Amazon Echo program, including any apps, books, and music you have downloaded. However, this is the best way to remove all traces of the old account and set up a new one.
Before you begin, make sure your Amazon Echo is connected to the Internet and then continue with these steps:
- Swipe down from the top of the Home screen to display the control panel (or a quick access bar).
- Tap Settings (gear icon) on the right side of the control panel.
- Select Device options from the menu.
- Tap on the Reset to factory defaults menu option.
- Select Restart to confirm that you want to reset to factory defaults.
After pressing the Restart , the device should automatically turn off and start the process. It should take approximately five minutes to complete. Do not remove the power cord from the device while performing a factory reset. Doing so may cause unnecessary system errors.
This will first remove the Amazon account from the system and then restore your Amazon Echo device to factory settings. When finished, it will turn on and take you to the account customization screen.
What happens to all your account data?
When you cancel an account registration, all your account data will disappear. Therefore, regardless of your choice, all books, audiobooks, service subscriptions, and other content and media related to your account will be erased from your device.
However, this does not mean that it has disappeared forever. Fortunately, all your purchases, such as books, apps, service subscriptions, and more, will remain connected to your Amazon Cloud account. Therefore, when you set up an account on another Amazon device, you will be able to download all of these items again.
The same goes for the new account you (or someone else) will set up on this Echo Show. If that user purchased items from their account on another device, they can easily download them to this other device. So there’s no reason to worry about your data – the cloud keeps everything intact regardless of the device.
No multiple accounts
Some Amazon devices allow you to have multiple accounts registered, but the Echo Show only allows one. Therefore, switching accounts can be quite a time-consuming experience.
While it’s best to commit to an Echo Show account for as long as you own it, it’s not a big deal if you decide to switch accounts. Since everything is stored in the cloud, you can safely delete accounts for as long as you want.
