How to make someone an administrator in GMOD

GMOD (short for Garry’s Mod) is a Half-Life 2 modification where you can create videos, images, and manipulate various in-game objects. When running your GMOD server, you must decide who will be assigned the administrator role. But how exactly do you make someone an administrator in this game?

In this post, we will explain how you can assign the administrator role to other players in GMOD. With this knowledge, you will be able to grant other users privileges that were previously inaccessible.

How to make someone an administrator with GMOD ULX

ULX is an administrator mod that gives you more control over the players on your GMOD server. Provides server administrators with AMXX-style support, allowing multiple administrators to access the same server at different levels.

There are three methods to make someone an administrator with GMOD ULX. Each requires you to enter a command.

The first command you can enter is “ulx adduser superadmin”. This command will need to be done from your server console. You will also need to make sure you have a stable connection to the server. Also, if you are not the owner, that is, you are renting the server to third parties, you will need to use a different method.

The second method does not require a connection to your server. This is what it looks like:

1. Start the game.
   
2. Start the console by pressing the corresponding button. This is usually the tilde symbol (“~”) on the keyboard.
   
3. Enter the following command: “ulx adduserid <Steam_ID> superadmin”.
   

As you can see, you will need to know your Steam ID to apply this method. You should also use an appropriate format, such as STEAM_0:1:654321. If you don’t remember your Steam ID, follow these steps to reveal it:

1. Open Steam and press the “View” button in the top left section of the screen.
   
2. Select “Settings,” followed by “Interface.”
   
3. Check the “Show the web address bar when available” box.
   
4. Click the “OK” button to save the settings.
   
5. Select your username and the platform should reveal your ID.

3. Remove all text from your “Custom URL” section.
   
4. Select “Save” and your ID should now appear in your URL.

The first two techniques are the easiest ways to make someone a ULX administrator. However, there is a third, more complicated method that requires you to modify the GMOD file. This is what it consists of:

1. Shut down the server.
2. Navigate to the users.txt file. It should be located in the settings subfolder of your main GMOD folder.
   
3. Inside the file, locate the “superadmin” section.
   
4. Replace the Steam ID and the “garry” part with the new administrator’s username and ID. Remove the “//” symbols in front of your name.
   
5. Restart the server and connect to it.

Can I become an administrator in a player?

It is possible to grant yourself the administrator role in single-player mode through ULX. The easiest way to do this is to use your web console:

1. Log in to your Game Panel and select your server.

2. Open your Command Prompt Manager to get your RCON password.

3. Return to the control panel and launch your Web Console.

4. Enter the RCON password in the box at the bottom of the screen.

5. Run this command: “ulx adduserid steamID super admin”. Make sure to replace the “steamID” part with your Steam ID.

6. You should now see a message saying that you have been granted the administrator rank.

Can I assign an administrator in my local network game?

Unfortunately, you cannot assign an administrator in your local network games. An assignment can only be made on local multiplayer servers or dedicated servers.
