Today’s NYT Strands Answer: Today’s Topic and Suggestions

The official theme for NYT Strands #67 is… “Touch to play”.

And here’s an unofficial hint from me: Putt-y in your hands.

If you don’t already know, here are some useful words that will give you those valuable clue tokens:

  • MINER
  • FIND
  • CAST
  • FELT
  • RECORDS
  • WAIT
  • CATS

Are you still fighting? The spangram will give you a clue about the connecting word. Today starts with ‘M’ and ends with ‘F’.

Scroll down to find out what it is…

It’s MINIGOLF.

Hello Strands fans. What a tortuous topic! At first I saw the word faucet and immediately tried “water”, thinking it would be different types of faucets. I didn’t know at this point that this was actually part of a longer word.

When that failed, my thoughts turned to mobile games, but after failing to find a ‘Y’ for either ‘Angry Birds’ or ‘Candy Crush’, I realized I must be on the wrong track.

It was only when I saw the word “golf” that I realized: MINIGOLF was the topic and, as expected, I understood the spangram first.

After that, it was very easy. I realized that the “water” was part of WATERFALL and saw RAMP under it. I then noted WINDMILL under the spangram and polished the top half with TUNNEL.

The last two weren’t that difficult either. I spelled BOULDER backwards, from bottom to top, and then added CASTLE to complete the puzzle fairly quickly (if you discount all the time I spent before the spangram…)
