Bronny James is already integrated into the NBA Draft Combine process at this point.
The 19-year-old went through measurements, drills and a 5-on-5 practice that featured a handful of top college prospects. He now participates in the interview part.
This is a crucial aspect of the combine for any prospect, but especially for James, who is trying to prove he belongs in the group after a disappointing freshman season. He’s also trying to show teams that he’s more than just the son of a great NBA player.
Through this, James has compared himself to three current NBA players, each at different stages of their career but all with a similar style.

James’ best attribute on the court currently is his defense.
He is adept at overcoming screens while maintaining his level in a defensive stance. There are not many mistakes when defending the ball, which is a plus because of his attention.
The USC freshman measured in at 6 feet, 1.5 inches and 210.4 pounds with a wingspan of 6 feet, 7.25 inches. He is smaller in terms of height, but has strength and length to make up for it.
James is aware of all this and compared himself to Jrue Holiday, Davion Mitchell and Derrick White.

Each of the three NBA point guards has a solid defensive foundation and impacts the game beyond scoring. He aligns well with James’ style right now: a beefy defensive guard who struggles on the offensive end.
White and Holiday are capable of making a big impact offensively, while Mitchell is more of a specialist. The 6-0 Kings guard weighs 202 pounds and has a wingspan of 6 feet, 4.25 inches. James has him slightly surpassed by all measures.

James’ interviews were much more than just an NBA comparison session. The 19-year-old spoke about his status as a draft prospect and how he is trying to separate himself from his father to prove his own worth.
He believes NBA officials will select him based on his own merits, not the possibility of his father hitting free agency.
“This is a serious matter,” James said. “I don’t feel like anyone thinks, ‘I’m drafting this guy just because I’m going to get his dad.’ I don’t think a GM would really allow that.”

James was also asked about his father’s dream of playing together in the NBA, to which James said he doesn’t think about it much. It was never his dream, but his father mentioned the possibility several times.
“My dream has always been to get my name out there, make a name for myself and make it to the NBA, which is the ultimate goal for everyone here,” James said. “I never thought about just playing with my dad.”

The NBA Combine ends on Sunday, May 19, so James will undergo more interviews, practices and drills in the coming days.
