How to add an existing account to the Spotify family

How to add an existing account to the family plan

If you are the one paying for the Family Plan, you can add other household members. They can’t join the plan unless you let them, so follow the instructions below to add other accounts to the Premium Family Plan.

1. Make sure your Spotify subscription is up to date.
2. Set an address for your account by visiting the official Spotify website and logging into your profile. Others cannot join you unless you do.
   
3. Once you have set up the address, you can proceed to send invitations to other household members.
   
4. When they receive your invitation, they should tap or click the link they received in the email. You can also send the link via text messages, Facebook Messenger, and other apps.
   
5. When prompted, tap or click the “Accept invitation” button.
   
6. Sign in to your Spotify profile if you haven’t already. You can also create an account now if you don’t have one.
   
7. Select “Confirm Location” to confirm that you and the Family Plan subscriber live at the same address. You can also choose to enter the address manually if something doesn’t work.
8. Once you have confirmed the address, select “Confirm” once again. If you need to edit the address, you can do so now.
   
9. If the address is correct, it is the last step of the subscription. Now all plan members can enjoy listening to music and using Spotify’s Premium features.
   

Note: If you are setting up the account when you are not at “home” (the address the plan owner entered for the account) do not choose the “Confirm Location” option. It uses the location of your device and you will not be able to confirm your account if you are not physically in the indicated location. If you are away from home, enter the address manually.

When you switch from a single Premium account to a Spotify family account, you can keep all your playlists, recommendations, and music.

How to add another account to the Spotify family

After you tap or click the “Accept Invitation” button on your Spotify invitation, you’ll be prompted to sign in to your account. But what do you do if you don’t have one?

No problem. The process of adding people to the Family Plan works the same for new and existing accounts, so simply create a Spotify account for yourself.

That is how.

Via email

1. Click or tap the “REGISTER” button.
   
2. Enter your email address and verify it.
   
3. Create a new password (make sure it’s not easy to hack).
   
4. Enter other account details: birthday, display name and more.
   

Through Facebook

1. Click or tap on the “SIGN UP/CONTINUE WITH FACEBOOK” option.
   
2. If you’re already logged into your Facebook profile, you’ll be asked to allow Spotify to access your data. Otherwise, you will need to use your Facebook credentials to log in.
   
3. Confirm that you are giving Spotify access to your Facebook information.
   

Please note that the same process is used for any Spotify account, whether free or Premium. Even if you are using a free account, it will automatically be upgraded to Premium and billed through the Family Plan subscription.

How to return to a single Spotify premium account

If you no longer want to use the Family Plan with members of your household, you can easily return to the single Premium account.

1. Open your browser and go to the official Spotify website.
   
2. After logging in, navigate to the top right corner and click on your profile picture.
   
3. Click on “Account” and scroll down to find the “Your Plan” section.
   
4. Select “Change Plan” and scroll to the bottom, where you will see the “Cancel Premium” button.
   
5. After confirming the cancellation, you will be able to choose a new plan and become a single Premium user again.
6. Confirm your choice and that’s it.
