A dream fight against Artur Beterbiev in the summer is not in the cards for Dmitry Bivol, the WBA light heavyweight champion. Instead, he will face Malik Zinad.
Bivol won the interim WBA light heavyweight title in 2016 and was eventually elevated to full-time champion. The Russian became a global sensation when he defeated Canelo Álvarez in a one-sided match in 2022. Since then, Bivol has won two matches in a row, beating Gilberto Ramírez and Lyndon Arthur.
Zinad will compete for his first world title. He has 16 wins by knockout, his best victory coming in April against Jerome Pampellone. Coming into a title fight at the last minute, Zinad is sure to be a big underdog. The Libyan is willing to attract attention and force everyone, including Bivol, to remember his name.
Bivol was supposed to fight Artur Beterbiev to determine the undisputed light heavyweight champion, but the latter backed out due to injury.
