The heir of the late Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) made the fight for succession inevitable. But man, with Aemond killing Luke, the Blacks (Team Rhaenyra) and the Greens (Team Alicent) are now primed for an open civil war.
At Dragonstone, the Blacks’ base of operations, the mad prince Daemon Targaryen (Smith), Rhaenyra’s husband and uncle, is, of course, pushing to immediately burn all his enemies. But Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Best) urges restraint as Rhaenyra mourns Luke. In King’s Landing, Aegon II leans toward his new role as ruler, Otto sees conflict as the only way to secure a green victory over the blacks, and Alicent feels ignored in the Small Council. “Rhaenyra has dragons too,” he tells her son as he boasts about going on the offensive. “Mine are bigger,” Aegon II replies. And while everyone in any of the strongholds talks about alliances and tactics, no one sees the smaller, quieter movements that are sure to inflame this already tense situation.
What shows will it remind you of? The epic fantasy of Dragon House He is a standard bearer who continues to defend the game of Thrones mantle. But it’s by no means the only game worth mentioning in fantasy TV town. This August, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will return for its second season and a third season of The wheel of time It is also on their way.
Our opinion: The collective weight and scope of the books on which they are based, numerous characters with strange names and unstated goals, and the connectivity between stories obscured, either by opaque and wordy exposition or by literally not being able to see the action. At various times, all of these have served as impediments to enjoying Dragon House. And at various times, all of those arguments have been valid. But here’s the thing: People who choose sides in a life-or-death battle for succession have a way of clearing the cobwebs. In its second season, hotWhat is at stake is defined. Its parameters are clear. Their characters have chosen. And while the results will be final, they’re sure to keep the drama pumping, even for any viewer familiar with George RR Martin’s source material. In the season 2 premiere, when the princess and future queen Rhaenyra arrive for a daytime landing. (TC 23:00) On his dragon Syrax, the little people scatter in terror. But from a safe distance, they also stand and watch in amazement. We are the common people at that time. We are all paralyzed by greatness. Sex and skin: The suggestion that Alicent Hightower was always in love with Ser Criston Cole, or at least lustfully, is, shall we say, a minor suggestion here in season 2.
Parting Shot: Plans made for revenge have a way of going awry, and in its final moments, the opening episode of Dragon HouseThe second round of the war offers a gruesome example of this. Don’t underestimate that revenge has become the main driver of the entire second season.
Sleeping star: It is a testament to Tom Glynn-Carney’s art that there is something shining within King Aegon II Targaryen beyond his well-known rudeness and deep depravity. But as the installed king learns on the job, Glynn-Carney lets us see more of Aegon. Sure, he still uses the Iron Throne as a backdrop to drink heavily with his companions. But there is a new dimension of wonder, of enthusiasm for living and governing, that turns a character who was basically a terrible person into someone much more interesting to watch.
Most pilot line: “The kingdom will soon be torn asunder if men do not remember the oath sworn to King Viserys and his rightful heir.” Some will surely remember it. Some definitely won’t. And control of Westeros is at stake.
Our call: TRANSMIT IT. In season 2, Dragon House returns with the promise of armed conflict, even more fiery beasts, and a rage in the hearts of women and men that will not be quenched without vengeance.
