Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka will race as Pereira defends the UFC light heavyweight title against the former champion at UFC 303.
Pereira, a kickboxing champion, quickly established himself by becoming the fastest fighter to win two belts in two pisions in UFC history (736 days/7 fights). The former UFC middleweight champion defeated Prochazka to win the vacant UFC light heavyweight title. “Poatan” last fought in April, knocking out Jamahal Hill.
Prochazka beat Glover Teixeira in 2022 for the UFC belt, but was forced to relinquish it after suffering a shoulder injury. He has a 1-0 record since the fight with Pereira, where he punished Aleksandar Rakic in April.
This is a last-minute fight, as the planned fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler was cancelled due to an injury to McGregor. Pereira, who last fought in April, has been recovering from broken toes and must now contend with a short fight camp. However, he is using his experiences in kickboxing to adapt.
“Of course, this is not the best way, but it is not new to me,” Pereira said on his YouTube channel via Shepherd dog. “I have been through similar situations. I did the first fight with Israel (Adesanya), in China, nobody knows, but I did two [trips] to China in 30 days. I went to interviews, took some photos, came back the next day, went in and out of China… But for my struggle [it] it was complicated.
“After 30 days, I fought again. [Cutting] weight, it was the 85 kilo category in kickboxing. I made three stops, three stops to get to the final destination. That tired me out a lot, I arrived just in time for [cut] “I lost weight, I lost weight, I fulfilled my obligations, I went to the fight and I won. This is not new to me. My mind is too strong for this. I decided to do it. It’s what I want, let’s go.”
