The Philadelphia 76ers’ offseason has been far from quiet, most notably the signing of former Los Angeles Clippers star forward Paul George.
George completes the equation for Philadelphia to have one of the most intimidating big three teams in the NBA, with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. It appears injuries are the only obstacle standing in the way of at least an NBA Finals appearance next season.
Maxey isn’t worried and recently had high praise for his new teammate, stating that “the sky’s the limit.”
“He’s a guy you can pick and plug into any system because of his talent. He’s 6-foot-10; he can shoot, rebound, pass the ball well, play with the ball, play off the ball, play passing, play transition — the sky’s the limit,” Maxey said on the Takeoff podcast. “With a guy like Joel Embiid, I feel like he’s the best player in the league. You have to be able to play off the ball, and in the passing game with him, you have to do a lot of different things to be versatile. I think he can play with second units and lead them as well.”

The Clippers were seen as a Western Conference team ready to make noise when it mattered most. However, an unfortunate matchup with Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, coupled with an injury to superstar Kawhi Leonard, resulted in a first-round exit. George’s play in the postseason was pretty poor by his standards, averaging fewer than 20 points for the first time since 2013.
Instead of facing the other team’s best defenders, as he did with the Clippers, George will find himself in more favorable matchups playing alongside Embiid and Maxey.
