Lakers fans who tuned into the Summer League opener to watch rookie duo Dalton Knecht and Bronny James are now very familiar with the name Adonis Arms.

James might have been the focus of all the pregame attention when he stepped onto the court for the first time in a Lakers uniform, but it was Arms, a former Texas Tech guard with no NBA experience in two years, who shined with 32 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for the Kings.
Offensively, James and the Lakers struggled more. James scored four points on 2-of-9 shooting (0-of-3 from 3-point range), along with two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Those totals were in line with his season averages at USC. James also missed two free throws.
James wasn’t expected to come in and shine in the Summer League, which still largely features older players, but his performance showed the 19-year-old has a lot of work ahead of him. Some of his early shots were too hard, while in one sequence late in the game, James passed up what looked like a good shot near the rim but got the ball back and forced a tougher shot.
The Lakers are also closely monitoring James’ progress on defense, which had its ups and downs Saturday. He had a rough time early while guarding Arms, but then added a steal that turned into a Lakers basket. James finished at minus-15 in the 108-94 loss, tied with Knecht for the worst on the team.
Knecht also struggled, scoring 12 points on 3-of-12 shooting. The first-round pick began to find a rhythm in the final minutes, which he hopes to carry over into Sunday’s game against the Warriors.
