Roman Gonzalez returns to the ring for the first time in 19 months when he takes on Rober Barrera in his home country of Nicaragua.
Gonzalez (51-4) is a four-pision world champion, with gold at minimumweight, light flyweight, flyweight and super flyweight. “Chocolatito” is 2-2 in his last four fights, the losses coming to Juan Francisco Estrada. Estrada’s last fight for gold at super flyweight was in December 2022.
The 37-year-old likely Hall of Famer now has his sights set on bantamweight and is looking to win gold in a fifth weight class.
“We are looking forward to getting back in the ring,” Gonzalez said via The ring“This will be a great comeback in my career and I am grateful that it will be in front of my Nicaraguan people.”
Barrera (27-5) is riding a three-fight winning streak, all of them by technical knockout. He has seventeen wins by way of power punching. The Colombian has unsuccessfully competed for gold at light flyweight on two occasions, and one of those was for the interim gold.
