Gareth Southgate will have to make a crucial decision about his role as England manager after the Euro 2024 final.
Southgate has led the Three Lions to two successive UEFA European Championship finals, losing on penalties to Italy in 2021 and facing Spain in 2024.

Southgate has been open about the possibility of retiring after the tournament as he considers a new challenge.
Speaking before the start of the competition, he said: “We’ll have to see how the summer goes. It’s that simple.”
“My aim is always to deliver a successful tournament for England and that takes a lot of hard work.”
Ahead of the final with Spain, Southgate was asked again about his plans beyond July and he indicated that an exit was a possibility but insisted he would take his time to decide.
“Emotionally, it would be impossible for me to make a logical decision right now on any of those issues because my only goal for two years has been to win this tournament,” she said.

Southgate left his position with the Under-21s to take up the role of senior team head coach in September 2016, following the resignation of Sam Allardyce.
After four games unbeaten as caretaker manager, including a 2-2 friendly draw with Spain, the FA confirmed him on a permanent four-year contract.
He led England to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and then to defeat in the final of Euro 2020 (held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Southgate signed a new contract after that tournament, tying him to England until December 2024.
Currently, their role is set to expire before the start of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, which begins in March 2025 for UEFA nations.

Who could replace Gareth Southgate as England manager?
If Southgate decides to move on as England manager, the English Football Association will begin its search for a replacement before September’s UEFA Nations League matches.
Current coach of the U-21 team Lee Carsley He has been linked with following the same path as Southgate, after turning down the Republic of Ireland senior job, but that remains an outside option.
