Southampton were the last team to secure promotion to the 2024/25 Premier League, beating Leeds United 1-0 in the playoff final in May.
Adam Armstrong scored the only goal of the game that sent Saints back to the top flight, an impressive feat considering their poor form in the first part of the season, which saw manager Russell Martin under intense scrutiny. The 38-year-old was appointed in June 2023 after Southampton were relegated from football’s top flight and finished bottom of the table.
Martin will be mentally preparing for his first season in the Premier League. There will be plenty of changes to the St. Mary’s squad this summer and a good pre-season could help them avoid a slow start to the season like last time out.
The Saints have announced their first pre-season fixtures will take place in June 2024, with a trip to neighbours Eastleigh ahead of a week-long training camp in Spain, with friendlies against French clubs Bordeaux and Montpellier taking place behind closed doors.
