James didn’t score until the final five minutes of the game, when he hit a jumper to get on the board. The second-round pick finished with two points, three rebounds and an assist on 1-of-5 shooting in 25 minutes, struggling to make an offensive impact in an 88-74 Lakers loss.
James is still without a three-pointer in the Summer League, having failed to hit a single three-point shot in the loss. He committed two turnovers and three fouls.
The Lakers will take their time with James, who is expected to spend much of his rookie season in the G League, but Monday was yet another reminder that he still has a long way to go if he wants to become a regular NBA player. The 19-year-old was outscored by seven of his eight teammates who played on the court, and is now averaging 4.3 points on 22.6 percent shooting in four Summer League games.
Los Angeles is expected to continue giving James consistent minutes to allow him to overcome his issues, and his next opportunity will come against the Hawks on Wednesday.
