Early in Industry In HBO’s “Smoke and Mirrors,” Season 3, Episode 2, recent graduate Sweetpea Golightly (Miriam Petche) shares some lurid gossip with Yasmin Kara-Hanani (Marisa Abela). Namely, that Lumi CEO Sir Henry Muck (Kit Harington) may seem totally normal, but his sexual appetites lean toward the kinky. After Henry Muck makes it abundantly clear that he wants to seduce Yasmin (going so far as to use his powerful family’s strings to delete the tabloid article that’s been hounding her since the season 3 premiere), she returns his flirtation in kind. She takes him to the bathroom of an upmarket restaurant where she doesn’t kiss him, fuck him, or even touch him. She forces him to listen to her urinate.
“You know, she’s playing with him.” Industry Star Marisa Abela told Jugo Mobile of the scene: “The most intimate thing I could do at that moment was give him enough of herself to be able to play with him, rather than just do something else in the bathroom.”
Of course, the reason Yasmin knows this hyper-specific bathroom date might work with Henry is because of what Sweetpea told her earlier.
“I don’t want to shame him for his kinks,” Sweetpea says, “but he’s like… in urine.”
The Gen Z graduate tells Yasmin that her best friend Treacle, who has a “body too dangerous for social media”, went on two great dates with Henry Muck before he asked her to pee on him.
At first, Yasmin tells Henry that she likes dominant behavior in her lovers, and forces him to leave the bathroom he’s inopportunely locked himself in when Lumi’s IPO falls through. Then, she uses her tabloid star fame and connections to old-world aristocratic clubs to stage a photo shoot of Henry with some of the most powerful people in the energy world. Basically, Yasmin has come to Henry’s rescue… and now he wants to woo her.
Henry’s grand romantic gesture is to have Yasmin’s article and associated photos permanently deleted. Yasmin cries briefly and then invites Henry to follow her. As soon as he enters the bathroom, she poses powerfully by the sinks, looking at herself in the mirror. She teases him and then enters a stall. With a smirk, she begins to urinate.
“I think she’s giving him what she thinks he wants. Yasmin knows men like that. She’s dealt with men like that all her life,” Abela said. “You know, men who wield a lot of power, because of their social status.”
“I think she understands that giving them what they want romantically and intimately right away is never going to work in your favor. The way to really get to a man like that’s heart is to let him know that you understand the power dynamics.”
Yasmin’s seduction works. We see Henry smile before he leaves. Not only has he taken care of the bill, but he has also left Yasmin an expensive bottle of wine which she drinks wildly to the horror of the sommelier.
Abela went on to explain that Yasmin’s pee play might have been romantic in a way. “I think it’s actually her way of being affectionate with him,” she said.
“At the end of the day, a lot of these things in Industry “It all comes down to power, money and sex. And I think Yasmin really understands how to wield power and sex,” Abela said. “I think if [Myha’la’s character] Harper’s power lies in power and money, so they kind of have all the bases covered between the two of them.”
