Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has provided an update on the ongoing transfer situation involving Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
The Scotland international, who has been with United since his youth, is reportedly close to a possible exit, with several clubs showing interest.
Napoli have shown interest in signing McTominay, but negotiations have been difficult. Manchester United recently rejected a loan offer from the Italian club for McTominay, which is expected to be worth at least £25 million ($32.4 million).
Despite this setback, Napoli remain interested in the player, but their ability to meet United’s demands depends on a significant financial boost.
Napoli’s interest in McTominay depends on Osimhen’s sale
Napoli’s potential purchase of McTominay is closely linked to the possible sale of their star striker Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian striker has been heavily linked with a possible move to Chelsea, and Napoli are said to be waiting for the cash flow from his sale to fund McTominay’s move.
Manna confirmed that while Napoli are interested in McTominay, no further details could be shared at this stage. “McTominay and [Billy] “The Gilmours are very good players,” Manna said. “But they are not our players so we will not comment. We will focus entirely on the game and then we will return to the focus on the signings.”
The situation surrounding Osimhen is also critical, as his departure would pave the way for the possible arrival of McTominay at Napoli.
Manna acknowledged the complexities involved, stating: “His wish [to leave] “It’s clear. We are working with his entourage to find the best solution. He has a contract for two more seasons, so if we don’t find a solution before August 30, we will have to talk to the player.”
As the transfer window draws to a close, Napoli will need to act quickly if they hope to secure the services of McTominay.
