Last night on HBO In real time with Bill MaherThe host devoted his “New Rules” segment to criticizing Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance’s comments about childless people.
Maher, who is known for being proudly single and childless, says Vance couldn’t be more wrong in claiming that childless people are “deranged” and “psychotic.”
“I was infertile before it was cool,” she joked, referencing how not having children has become a more popular lifestyle choice.
The HBO host called Vance “Donald Trump’s new pisser” and joked that the vice presidential candidate “has now reopened the question at the very base of the Republican Party: Bitch, why aren’t you pregnant?”
“Really? So the biggest threat to America right now isn’t a nuclear-armed Iran or $35 trillion in debt or another leaky lab in China. It’s catwomen,” Maher said. “Vance says the country is being run by them. In 2020 he said that not having children makes people “more sociopathic and less mentally stable,” and the people who are “more deranged and more psychotic” are people who don’t have children.”
“Have you met your running mate yet?” Maher asked. “He has five kids and is completely crazy.”
She concluded her speech by saying, “And again, it’s 2024 and you’re still saying that people who don’t get married and raise kids are inferior weirdos. Thanks, Phyllis Schlafly, let me check my pager to see if 1993 called.”
Maher then reviewed some clips from his old ABC series. Politically incorrect from the 1990s onwards, using them as a benchmark for how general opinion on childless lifestyles has changed since then.
He then went back to talking about Vance. “In 2021, JD Vance said, and I quote, ‘Let’s give every child in this country the vote. When you go to the polls as a parent, you should have more power than people who don’t have children. ’ No, your life choices are no more valid or worthy than mine. I think people who don’t smoke marijuana are missing out on something. But that doesn’t mean Woody Harrelson can vote twice.”
Maher took this opportunity to promote the cannabis store he owns with Harrelson.
Towards the end of the segment, which you can watch above, Maher played another clip from Politically incorrect in which he joked that he would have a vow renewal ceremony with himself.
He then concluded his “New Rules” segment by doing exactly that.
