Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke is set to miss the Premier League trip to Newcastle United on September 1 through injury.
Spurs agreed a club-record £55 million ($71 million) deal to sign the England international from Bournemouth earlier this month, after he scored 19 EPL goals for the Cherries last season.
Ange Postecoglou has indicated that Solanke fits the ideal profile he wants in a striker, but it has been a difficult start at Spurs for the former Liverpool forward.
The 26-year-old suffered an ankle injury in Leicester City’s season opener, ruling him out of their 4-0 home win over Everton last weekend.
Postecoglou has since indicated he will not return to action until the next international break, when Spurs travel to Newcastle on September 1.
“Dom picked up a knock against Leicester, he managed to finish the game but the injury got worse the next day so he missed the Everton game,” he said.
“It just depends on his recovery. [when he returns]Obviously, we have the international break coming up, but it doesn’t matter.
Postecoglou’s comments indicate he will err on the side of caution with his new striker and the trip to Tyneside is seen as an unwanted risk.
Rodrigo Bentancur will be assessed in the coming days after also missing the Everton game, suffering a concussion at Leicester.
Italy international Destiny Udogie is considered a doubt after being substituted late in the game against Everton due to muscle fatigue.
Postcoglou made three starting changes between those two games and he could recall Pape Sarr to add some grit to his midfield at St. James’ Park.
