Philadelphia 76ers point guard Jared McCain is looking to make an impact right out of the gate.
The Duke recruit isn’t the biggest player, standing at 6’2″ and 200 pounds, but he can shoot three-pointers better than most. He knocked down 41.4% of his three-point shots with the Blue Devils.
McCain hopes to one day reach the level of New York Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson, who plays a similar style of play.
“I feel like shooting is my biggest skill and the most transferable to the NBA. I would love to mention Jalen Brunson, but I’m not quite there yet.” McCain shared on teammate Paul George’s podcast“Smaller, stockier backs who can impact the game in multiple ways.”
The Sixers guard also mentioned Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors) and CJ McCollum (New Orleans Pelicans) as promising comparisons.
“I watched Brunson in college. My coach and I watched his highlights,” McCain said. “He sends me videos a lot, and a lot of his highlights from college were just him, so I’ve been watching Brunson for a long time now.”
Brunson exploded in his final postseason run with the Dallas Mavericks before taking his game to new heights in New York. He recently signed a four-year, $156 million contract extension after averaging 28.7 points and 6.7 assists on 47.9 percent shooting. He left more than $100 million on the table next summer to give the Knicks more salary cap flexibility.
The hope for Philadelphia’s leadership is that McCain will eventually go down that path, if he can reach the level he dreams of.
