With the 2024 preseason over, the Pittsburgh Steelers will now focus on reducing their roster to 53 players in the coming days.
The Steelers have until Tuesday, August 27 at 4 p.m. ET to trim the roster, but the team will likely begin making moves in the days leading up to it. Pittsburgh has several tough decisions to make on both sides of the ball.
As for the quarterback situation, head coach Mike Tomlin revealed that the team would not announce its decision until later this week, although Russell Wilson was expected to start with Justin Fields backing him up.
“We will make a decision at the end of our work week next week,” Tomlin said of the decision, according to Teresa Varley of Steelers.com“We have three days of work between Steelers. Why not do it then? It kind of minimizes the work between Steelers when we start making decisions before that work is done.
“We have plenty of time to prepare for Atlanta and make decisions or announcements about the distribution of tasks or the hierarchy, etc. So we will do that at the end of the work week.”
