Any number of things can trip up an NFL team during the regular season. Injury is always at the top of the list, and the Seattle Seahawks are no exception. A lengthy absence of key players like Geno Smith, DK Metcalf, Leonard Williams or Devon Witherspoon could put a damper on their win total for the 2024 season.
So while we think this team could win 11 or even 12 games under rookie head coach Mike Macdonald, there’s always the possibility they could fall short and end up with a top-10 draft pick. That’s what happens in this new 2025 NFL Draft mock scenario from Vinnie Iyer at Jugo Mobile, which has Seattle taking Michigan cornerback Will Johnson with the ninth overall pick in the draft.
“The Seahawks have depth and stability issues after 2023 first-round pick Devon Witherspoon, and they could well address that next year with a potential shutdown bookend.”
Another way to put it is that it will be cheaper to draft a replacement for the left-side cornerback position than to give Tre Brown: Long-term contract extension. Brown has done a good job, but he’ll really have to impress in 2024 to justify that kind of investment on top of what they’ll have to pay Witherspoon and Riq Woollen in the years to come.
If the Seahawks don’t want him, Johnson would be an upgrade over Brown and could give them the best cornerback cap in the entire NFL. Watch.
