Real Madrid will be hoping Jude Bellingham’s recovery from injury remains on track after Carlo Ancelotti’s side suffered another midfield setback.
Bellingham has not played since Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Real Mallorca on the opening weekend of the La Liga season due to a calf problem.
The 21-year-old will miss England’s upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland, with a return after the international break in sight.
This would certainly come in handy for Ancelotti after a negative prognosis for Dani Ceballos.
Playmaker Ceballos had been linked with a move away from Madrid after struggling for first-team opportunities last season, but was handed his first start of the new campaign against his former club Real Betis on Sunday.
However, he was forced off the pitch after 65 minutes and Madrid confirmed on Monday that the 28-year-old was suffering from an ankle ligament injury.
“Following the tests carried out today by Real Madrid’s medical services on our player Dani Ceballos, a grade 3 sprain with ligament damage to the right ankle has been diagnosed. His progress will be monitored,” the club said in a statement.
Ankle sprains are graded from one to three, with three being the most severe end of the scale such as a complete ligament tear.
Real Madrid secured a 2-0 win over Betis thanks to a double from Kylian Mbappé in La Liga. The Madrid team will return to competition with a trip to Real Sociedad on September 14.
