The Jujutsu Kaisen manga is heading towards its end and killing off the main villain, Ryomen Sukuna. However, there is a way for him to come back.

The battle against the strongest in Jujutsu Kaisen finally ends in chapter 268. While each sorcerer played their part in defeating the most powerful sorcerer in history, Yuji stands until the end and helps Megumi free herself from the villain.

The fight lasted for over a year, with the main characters battling the King of Curses and using every trick at their disposal. Nobara’s resonance and the expansion of Yuji’s domain ensured that the villain would no longer be able to fight back.

However, although Sukuna dies in the manga, the chapter hints that he might still come back. So, what could happen before the manga’s grand finale?

Is Sukuna’s death confirmed?

As soon as Megumi breaks free from Sukuna’s grasp, Sukuna transforms into a pile of flesh. Sukuna is still a curse incarnate and cannot maintain a physical form without a vessel. He was severely weakened during the long battle.

Thanks to the Soul Punches and the expansion of Yuji’s domain, Megumi finally hears his friend’s voice. He finds a new reason to live instead of drowning in sorrow after Tsumiki’s death. Yuji takes pity on the villain and offers to be his vessel again. However, Sukuna clings to his pride until the very end and disintegrates.

How is it possible that he comes back?

Yuta tricked Sukuna into thinking he had made Rika eat the last finger. However, Yuta actually ate Yuji’s finger and kept Sukuna’s finger inside a chamber. Nobara uses her resonance on the finger, causing Sukuna to convulse in pain.

This allowed Yuji to continue his attacks. However, even though Nobara used her technique, she could not destroy Sukuna’s finger. This is why Yuji offered to become Sukuna’s vessel. If Sukuna agreed, Yuji could eat the last finger and resurrect his worst enemy. For better or worse, Sukuna chose his pride and died.

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 247, Kusakabe states, “Curses do not always weaken after death.” Higruma agrees and says that they become stronger. Sukuna’s final words, “For I am a curse,” suggest that there is more than meets the eye.

As far as we know, destroying the last finger is nearly impossible—even Gojo isn’t capable of doing such a thing. The best they can do is seal it, but the seal will gradually weaken over time. As long as the finger exists, there will always be a chance that Sukuna will return.

It could take decades or centuries, but the possibility of someone else becoming a vessel is not unpredictable. JJK could even have a cliffhanger ending where someone finds their last finger, leaving several questions unanswered and making way for a sequel.

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga will end in a few weeks, so find out when the latest chapter will be released. For more on dark sorcery, take a look at JJK’s unsatisfying ending and our list of the 10 most powerful sorcerers of the modern era.
