Dragon Ball Daima, the highly anticipated return of Goku and the X Fighters to the small screen, finally has a premiere date.
Dragon Ball Daima is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated anime of the year. Goku and his friends haven’t been in an anime since 2018 (yes, that’s how long it’s been since Dragon Ball Super ended), and the untimely death of Akira Toriyama has only added to the excitement.
Ever since Daima was announced in 2023, we’ve had a steady stream of details, and now we have the release date. Dragon Ball Daima kicks off on October 11, 2024 in Japan with an extended episode, and the whole season is already in the can.
The news comes from Fuji Television, the broadcaster of the TV series in Japan. Episode 1 will be 10 minutes longer than the rest of the season, and “all episodes of Dragon Ball DAIMA have been completed,” according to to Nakajima Yuichi, programming director.
This second part is unusual for the industry. Anime and manga are typically produced under fairly tight deadlines, which often leads to delays, breaks, and interruptions within creative teams and studios. One Piece goes on hiatus every few weeks, and series like My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen typically have a break somewhere during a given season.
Having Daima fully completed reduces the risk of delays, outside of holidays and such. It also indicates that the team that completed the project was given enough time and resources to complete their task, which should be more common.
Watching Daima will be bittersweet, as it’s Akira Toriyama’s final work in the franchise. The production, which features Goku, Vegeta, and their companions transformed into child versions of themselves by a mysterious entity, takes place before Super in the overall timeline, so it should have a more comedic tone.
