There’s no telling what moves the Philadelphia 76ers’ management will make at this year’s trade deadline to prepare for a championship run.
The most playable position is power forward, with Caleb Martin, Guerschon Yabusele and Adem Bona. Paul George and Andre Drummond could see some time at the four but won’t play primarily at that position.
That’s where All-Defensive big man Robert Williams could come in, as NBA analyst Brian Windhorst of ESPN recently ranked him among the top trade candidates.
“A player to watch and who is very transferable is ‘The Time Lord’, one of the great nicknames in the entire NBA, Robert Williams. Coming back from injury, he’s obviously a player who has had repeated injury problems, but he’s making $13 million.” Windhorst shared“They might be willing to part ways with him, and he could go to a contender and be an important piece if he’s healthy.”
As Windhorst pointed out, health is key for Williams to contribute to a championship contender. He has played just 41 games over the past two seasons, with an average of 7.8 points and 8 rebounds at 73.5% shooting success.
The Portland Trail Blazers big man could shore up the Sixers’ frontcourt at a relatively low price. Draft capital is probably the most interesting return as Portland continues to rebuild around its young backcourt.
