The NBL pre-season is well underway, but that hasn’t stopped major signings, with the Adelaide 36ers securing the signature of NBA veteran Montrezl Harrell.
Harrell, 30, last played for the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2022-23 season but was released after suffering an ACL injury.
Signed as a replacement for Jarrell Martin, who is currently sidelined through injury, Harrell will join a promising Adelaide side under new head coach Mike Wells as they look to stabilise after a difficult few years in the City of Churches.

After losing star import Martin to injury for at least the first half of the season, the 36ers responded in a big way by bringing in 2020 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell, according to ESPN.
While this is seemingly a short-term deal, Harrell will have an immediate impact on the 36ers, who have had an offseason full of drama.
He joins star imported fullback Kendric Davis, as well as an impressive collection of local talent including DJ Vasiljevic, Isaac Humphries and Jason Cadee, under newly appointed coach Mike Wells.
Harrell would have the option to stay longer in Adelaide, but that would require the team to part ways with a homegrown player to accommodate that, which could pay dividends if Harrell is able to produce at the level of previous years in the NBA.
He most recently played for Philadelphia in the NBA, playing 57 games for the team before suffering an ACL injury heading into training camp in August 2023, leading the team to waive his contract.
This will be Harrell’s return to professional basketball, with the veteran undoubtedly seeking a return to the NBA at just 30 years old.
