The Dallas Mavericks exceeded expectations on their way to the NBA Finals, but then underperformed once they got thereDallas’ star players Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving had poor performances in the championship round, as they could only win one game against the Boston Celtics.
Irving averaged less than 20 points per game in the Finals and shot 27.6 percent from three-point range. In their previous meeting in the Western Conference Finals, he averaged 27 points per game and shot 37.5 percent from three-point range.
The 2016 NBA champion has become a great leader and is entering his fourteenth season in the NBA. He has taken responsibility for his loss and is ready to get back on the horse and finish the job next time.
“We came here for a reason. There’s blood in the water, that’s for sure.” Irving said during a Twitch Live Stream“I’m always going to take responsibility, and that starts with me. I didn’t play at my best down the stretch, and it’s eating away at me in a healthy way. I stayed motivated. We’re going to come back.”
Irving has been to the lab This summer, and after a full season with Doncic under their belt, the Mavericks could be poised for another playoff run. The addition of Klay Thompson will give Dallas an extra layer of championship experience, and they will now face higher expectations with Doncic entering his seventh year.
The loss to one of his former teams probably added fuel to the fire for Irving. His time with the Celtics didn’t go as planned, and every time the two teams face off, there’s always a little more motivation.
