Apple’s latest iPhone 16 and 16 Pro have arrived and will soon be hitting stores near you. But before you make that impulse decision and grab yourself a shiny new iPhone 16, wouldn’t you want to know whether your new expensive device can survive a splash in water or not? Well, that’s the question we’re here to answer by discussing whether the new iPhone 16 and 16 Pro are waterproof or not.

Are the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro waterproof?

All new devices including iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max have an IP68 protection rating in accordance with IEC 60529. This protects them against dust, dirt, splashes and water.

However, it is not completely waterproof, but rather water-resistant. This means that the iPhone 16 can be submerged for up to 6 meters for 30 minutes. So if you’re worried about taking your phone out in the rain or to a pool party, don’t be. Your phone can survive splashes, but don’t drop it in the pool.

iPhone 16 IP Rating Explained

If you want to know more about this IP rating, here’s a basic overview. This is a standard that determines how well your phone or other electrical devices can survive solid particles and water. The first number reflects resistance to dust and dirt, while the second number represents water resistance.

All four phones in the iPhone 16 series have an IP68 rating, one of the highest you can get for an electronic device or smartphone. So your phone should be able to survive a few dips in water, but we don’t recommend trying it yourself.

Does Apple cover water damage under warranty?

Is iPhone 16 Waterproof? Answer

No. Apple, or any other smartphone manufacturer for that matter, does not cover water damage. Even if your phone is rated IP68, it won’t be covered. Even if you have AppleCare+, you’ll have to pay for the cost of components and service fees to repair your phone.

Now that you know that your new iPhone 16 is water resistant, you can confidently go out in the rain without worrying about accidentally damaging your phone in the rain. But remember not to be too brave, or you might end up damaging the device. Apart from that, if you have any questions regarding the article, let us know in the comments below.
